The electric Polestar 2 has been thoroughly renewed. The Polestar is not being treated too harshly on a cosmetic level, but it is being thoroughly renewed on a technical level. The Polestar 2 is now basically a rear-wheel drive, gets new electric motors and new battery packs. The consequence? More power and a much longer electric range for all engine versions. The prices of the renewed Polestar 2 are also available.
Highlights renewed Polestar 2
- From front to rear wheel drive
- New batteries and electric motors for all versions
- More power and greater range – up to 635 kilometers
- From €51,200
Since the introduction of the Polestar 2 in 2019, Polestar has made several technical adjustments to its electric success number. The Polestar 2 was initially only available with two combined 408 hp electric motors and a 77 kWh battery, but in 2021 there were also two front-wheel drive versions of the Polestar 2. The Polestar 2 has now been renewed and in a very special way. As relatively small as the external changes are, they are so intense on a technical level.
Just like the Volvo XC40 and C40, which were technically related to the Polestar 2, the Polestar 2 is now basically a rear-wheel drive. Yes, where the single engine Polestars 2 used to have front-wheel drive, they are now rear-wheel drive. In any case, on paper that fits perfectly with a brand like Polestar, which in a sense markets itself as a sporty brand.

Facelift
The Polestar is fitted with a handful of design elements from the younger and larger Polestar 3 on the cutting table. You can see that especially at the front. The Polestar 3 is given a closed snout comparable to that of the Polestar 3, which Polestar has dubbed the SmartZone. In this semi-closed panel, Polestar has housed, among other things, the forward-facing camera and a radar. So it is done with the ‘grille’ with the checkered pattern.
More optical news comes in the form of new 20-inch alloy wheels for the Polestar 2 with Performance Pack.
Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Engine
The entry-level version of the Polestar 2 is still called Standard Range Single Motor. The 231 hp and 330 Nm strong electric motor on the front axle that this engine version had before the facelift clears the field and is replaced by a 272 hp and 490 Nm strong electric motor that drives the rear wheels. So more horsepower and more Nm. This new electric motor helps the Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor to reach 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. This means that it reaches 100 km / h a full second earlier than before the facelift.
The battery pack of this variant now comes from LG Chem, but with a capacity of 69 kWh it is just as large as before. However, the composition of the package has been improved and that gives the Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor a much larger driving range. Its range is now up to 518 kilometers instead of 476 kilometers. So more than 40 kilometers profit. In addition, the battery pack can be charged faster. The charging capacity used to be 130 kW, but is now 135 kW.
The starting price of the Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor is €51,200. The first examples of the renewed Polestar 2 are expected in the Netherlands in the third quarter.
Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor
As before, there is also a single-engine Polestar 2 with the larger battery pack. It is more powerful than the Standard Range Single Motor. The Polestar Long Range Single Motor has a 299 hp and 490 Nm strong electric motor. Here too, the electric motor now drives the rear wheels. The Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor buzzes to a speed of 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, making it 1.2 seconds faster than the facelift version of the same name.
The Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor also gets a new battery pack. The 77 kWh battery is exchanged for an 82 kWh large model from CATL. With its new larger and more efficient battery pack, the Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor can now travel up to 635 kilometers, about 85 kilometers further than before the facelift. The 82 kWh battery pack can also be charged faster than the battery it replaces. The charging capacity increases from 155 kW to 205 kW. So make some profit!
The starting price of the Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor is €55,200.
Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor
For those who also do not have enough 299 hp or who prefer four-wheel drive, can again opt for the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor. That version gets the same new 82 kWh battery as the Long Range Single Motor, but is a lot more powerful with two electric motors. This engine variant also gains horsepower compared to the previous variant. The Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor is now 421 hp and 740 Nm strong instead of 408 hp and 660 Nm. The Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor stomps to a speed of 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, cutting Polestar 0.2 seconds off its sprint time. With the Long Range versions, the emphasis of the drive is now also on the rear wheels. The rear electric motor is the most important.
Good news: the front electric motor switches off completely when conditions allow. This naturally has a positive effect on the maximum range. No surprise then that the range of the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor is also significantly increased. The Long Range Dual Motor previously kicked it up to 487 kilometers, but now has a range of up to 592 kilometers behind its name. This brings the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor no less than 105 kilometers further than before. Fast charging is now possible with a maximum of 205 kWh, just like with the other Polestars with the new 82 kWh battery.
The Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor has a starting price of €59,900.
Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor Performance Pack
Especially for the Caterpillars Never Enough, the Performance Pack also returns to the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor. With 476 hp, the number of horsepower remains unchanged compared to before the facelift, although the torque increases to 740 Nm. With Performance Pack, the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor stomps to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. Its range is 592 kilometers equal to that of the twin-engine Polestar 2 without Performance Pack.
The starting price of the Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor Performance Pack is €66,400. The Performance Pack upgrade is purely software and can therefore also be purchased afterwards.
Equipment
No facelift without tinkering with the list of available safety systems. Polestar adds Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with steering assistance to the standard equipment, as well as systems such as Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning and Mitigation and a 360-degree camera. More standard indulgence comes in the form of automatically dimming exterior mirrors and an inductive charger.
