Porsche 928 S (1984) – Into the Wild

Hot air balloon as a bonus

Porsche 928 S (1984) – Into the Wild

We see older 911s regularly, the 924 and 944 as well, but a Porsche 928 remains a truly special device in all its appearances. This copy is from 1984 and is offered to you with a free hot air balloon.

That hot air balloon is in photo 2, in case you were wondering. Let’s focus mainly on the car itself, because it can be there. The 928 in question comes from 1984 and that makes it a 928 S. It was there before, but only during this period. Compared to the earlier non-S – the 928 was there from 1977 – we note the black double chin and similar rear spoiler, but this car still has the original front bumper and taillights. We still consider it an early copy, because 928s after the major facelift look very different with their more rounded front bumper and wide, horizontally oriented taillights.

A Porsche 928 S had 310 hp in 1984, at least in Europe. In North America that was a lot less due to all kinds of strict environmental requirements, and we don’t call that for nothing. This 928 has orange ‘side markers’ for the front wheels, a typical American characteristic. However, it lacks the red side marker lights that also belong to an American example and also does without the ‘bump blocks’ in the license plate recess at the back. So there are two conceivable scenarios: it’s a European car with American front wings, or an American car with a European butt. Anyway, we think it’s cool, especially in this lovely, appropriate color. The thick wheels probably come from another Porsche, but secretly look great on him. Or do you think that’s swearing in church?
