This year it is 25 years ago that Porsche launched the Boxster and that should be celebrated. The German brand is releasing a special edition of the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, which is a nod to the concept car that actually started the Boxster adventure in 1993.
This is the Porsche Boxster 25 Years, a special edition of the 718 Boxster with which Porsche celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Boxster line. The Boxster 25 Years will be available in an edition of 1,250 units and is in fact a specially decorated 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, which makes the base very nice.
The 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 is the version of the 718 Boxster launched around this time last year with a 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine in the rear. The 400 hp strong machine is of course an attraction, but for the Porsche fetishist not the attraction of the Boxster 25 Years. That is his decoration. With the Boxster 25 Years, Porsche is paying homage to the Boxster Concept, the study model launched at the North American International Auto Show in 1993, with which Porsche showed a concrete forerunner of the Boxster launched in 1996. In total, Porsche has produced more than 357,000 Boxsters / 718s Boxster.
Porsche Boxster Concept (1993)
The Boxster 25 Years is painted in the same GT silver paint as the now 28-year-old study model, but of course there is more than just a silver jacket. For example, in the front bumper, as with the Boxster Concept, we encounter a brown / copper-colored finish. The air intakes on the sides and the lettering of the model name are also in this color. The color also returns to the special 20-inch alloy wheels, although the wheels under the Boxster 25 Years are of a different model than the ones under the 1993 concept car. and the windscreen – just like the Boxster study model – in black. Don’t you like the silver-colored paint? No problem, the Boxster 25 Years is also available in black and white.
Porsche Boxster 25 Years (interior)
Porsche also gives a nod to the Boxster Concept on the inside by painting the interior of the special Boxster 25 Years in red. The soft top is also finished in this red color. Those who are not charmed by the red can have both the interior and the soft top in black.
Just like the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, the Porsche Boxster 25 Years is available with a manual six-speed gearbox and a seven-speed PDK automatic transmission. The special Boxster 25 Years can be ordered immediately and has a Dutch price of € 138,900. The car can be viewed up close at Porsche dealers from the end of March.
