Porsche comes with an update for older Taycans

Porsche already made some adjustments for the Taycan last summer. Anyone who has not yet been able to benefit from this with an older Taycan can largely rectify this via an update.

In August, Porsche introduced several novelties to the Taycan, which, partly thanks to an extensive software update, are now also available for models prior to this model year update. For example, the sprint time of the Turbo S has been slightly shortened. As a result, this type only needs 9.6 seconds for the 0-200 sprint with launch control, instead of 9.8 seconds. It makes a difference again, shall we say. However, the charging time is more relevant, because since the renewal round – which applied to Taycans that were delivered from October – you can charge faster at the AC charger. The charging capacity of the on-board charger went from 11 kW to 22 kW. This will also be possible for the ‘old’ types, because later this year Porsche is expected to offer the improved on-board charger for earlier Taycans.

A novelty that is immediately available without exceptions via the software update is the limitation of fast charging to 200 kW. Then the battery will be full less quickly, but according to Porsche it will benefit the lifespan. Another adjustment focuses on the adaptive air suspension. If you own a Taycan that has that, you can do more after an update, thanks to a function Porsche calls ‘Smartlift’. The car then automatically rises slightly for thresholds or unevenness in the road surface, so that you are less likely to risk damaging something. Undoubtedly it also feels a bit more comfortable as a result.

Finally, after the update, Porsche also offers various additional functions that can be downloaded over-the-air for a fee and then activated. These include Active Lane Keeping Assist and the smarter power steering Power Steering Plus. You can read more about this here.

Taycan owners can have the software update carried out free of charge at the Porsche dealer. Affected customers will be informed about this according to the importer. You do have to pay for many of the extra functions that you can get in over the air – which you can install separately after this software update.
