Not two Macans next to each other anyway

Porsche Macan will disappear from the market in 2024, but it will remain

The Porsche Macan as you know it will disappear from the market in the spring of next year. Yet Europe will not remain Macan-less. A fully electric Porsche Macan is on its way. The disappearance of the Macan with combustion engines also comes as a surprise.

Porsche will launch a fully electric Macan in 2024. This new electric SUV – just like its technical brother Audi Q6 e-tron – should actually have been launched in 2022, but was delayed. Initially, the electric Porsche Macan would also be sold in Europe side by side with the current model, which is only available with combustion engines. That doesn’t appear to be happening. The reason: cybersecurity.

A Porsche spokesperson tells Automotive News that the Porsche Macan as you know it will be taken off the market in the European Union in the spring of 2024. After July 1, the Macan’s electronic architecture would no longer meet the requirements imposed by the EU in the field of cybersecurity suggests. The Macan is said to have been developed before the future requirements for digital ones and zeros were known. It would be too expensive to modify the Macan’s electronic architecture to bring it into compliance. This also seems to mean that the technical sister model Audi Q5 will not make it to spring next year. That SUV will not remain without a successor. Audi is working on a completely new Q5 and the aforementioned Q6 e-tron.

We are still awaiting a response from the Dutch importer. The Porsche Macan was presented in 2013 during the LA Auto Show and was significantly facelifted in 2018. In 2021 the car was refreshed again, albeit in a more subtle way.
