Print wirelessly with AirPrint on iPhone or iPad

Print via AirPrint on iPhone or iPadPrint documents and photos from an iPhone or iPad wirelessly with AirPrint. This is possible without a special app.

AirPrint is Apple’s method of wirelessly connecting to a printer from an iPhone or iPad. You do this by connecting both devices to the same Wi-Fi network. This does not require a special app or software (from the printer supplier) to be installed on the device. AirPrint is standard on Apple devices. This way you can easily send photos, documents or emails from the usual apps to the printer.

There are two requirements to use AirPrint. First of all, the printer must be suitable for using AirPrint. Fortunately, most modern printers are. To be sure, check this on the Apple’s website. In addition, the iPhone or iPad and the printer must be connected to the same WiFi network. Connecting the printer to a Wi-Fi network works differently with each model. Therefore, consult the manual of the printer. Connecting an iPhone or iPad to WiFi is discussed below.

Connecting the iPhone or iPad (from iOS 13) to Wi-Fi works as follows:

  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap on Wi-Fi.
  • Check whether the bar behind ‘Wi-Fi’ is green.

In iOS 15, the available network connections are listed under “My Networks” or “Other Networks” (in older versions, “Networks”). The lock on the network indicates that it is password protected.

  • Tap the desired Wi-Fi network. So this must be the same network that the printer is connected to.
