PSA and Dongfeng, who together build cars in the Chinese city of Wuhan, severely affected by the corona virus, are back to work. The factories restart after two months.
The corona crisis has its origins in the Chinese metropolis of Wuhan, which is home to a lot of car industry. Various brands were therefore forced to stop production there because of the virus outbreak in January. This includes PSA and Dongfeng, who build cars in a joint venture. The factories in Wuhan shut down in late January when Wuhan went into lockdown, and production resumed several times in the period that followed. So now the bullet has passed through the church and the work can continue. China says it has now managed to control the outbreak and is gradually returning Wuhan and the entire affected province to normal life.
PSA and Chinese Dongfeng joined forces a few years ago and together developed a modular platform. Models available in Europe are also built on this basis, the CMP platform. Think of the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa. The EV-counterpart, e-CMP, is used for the electric variants of the 208 and Corsa. The factory in Wuhan mainly builds PSA cars for the local market.
