Qualcomm is likely to announce a new high-end processor on May 20. This is expected to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. This is an improved version of the ‘regular’ Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Faster, but also more economical?
Qualcomm has a message on Weibo announcing that a new processor will be announced on May 20. This is expected to be an upgrade of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the ‘new’ chipset will be a step faster, especially in terms of speed. It is not yet known whether the new chipset will also become more energy-efficient. This is something we secretly hope for, because the regular Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 can be a hothead. Qualcomm’s new processor would be the engine of the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 and Fold 4, among other things.
Also a new midrange chipset?
In addition to the new high-end chipset, Qualcomm would also be working on a new midrange processor, the Qualcomm 7 Gen 1. With this, Qualcomm will also tackle the naming of their midrange processors for the first time and the new naming (number-Gen version) continue in one line. The first number will indicate what kind of processor it is. Two and four for low end, six and seven for midrange and 8 for high end. The second part represents the generation, each year this will be plus one. So Gen 1 for this year, Gen 2 next year etc. etc.
