Renault looks ahead at interior Australia

Renault Austral

Renault will soon release the successor to the Kadjar: the Austral. Renault previously lifted a corner of the veil of the exterior with a shadowy teaser plate and a prototype wrapped in camouflage material, now the French are giving a virtual preview of the interior of the SUV.

The dashboard of the Austral clearly follows the line of the interior of the Mégane E-Tech Electric. This comparison is especially true for the placement of the driver’s screens: the central display and the upright screen for the infotainment system curve around the driver and are separated by two vertical vents. Below the central touchscreen is another row of buttons. The Austral’s high center console extends from the dashboard to the rear and looks tidy. A large bracket takes a prominent place on the center console, it is quite possible that this is the selector lever for the automatic transmission.

It remains to be seen whether the striking red moldings with a striped pattern will also return in the production version of the Austral. In any case, it creates a special effect, especially for the multi-layered passenger side of the dashboard. The top and bottom flattened three-spoke steering wheel is also in the Mégane E-Tech Electric. In contrast to the latter, the Austral still gets combustion engines, albeit electrified. In any case, it will come with a 12V mild-hybrid 1.3 TCe and a 48V mild-hybrid 1.2 TCe. A hybrid E-Tech Hybrid powertrain is also planned.

Renault says the full disclosure will follow “soon”. We will probably know more soon.
