Estate plugs in
Contrary to what various car media write today, Renault will not pull the plug on the Mégane for the time being. According to reports, Renault would have stopped production of the regular Mégane in order to fully focus on the electric Megane E-Tech Electric.
The English Autocar writes today that Renault has stopped production of the fourth generation Mégane presented in 2015 for the British market. That’s true, but the rumor popping up here and there that that would also mean that the Mégane-with-combustion engine is all over and out of the UK market can help AutoWeek get rid of the world.
Renault confirms to AutoWeek that production of the conventional Mégane has not stopped and will continue for the time being. This means that you can still order the Mégane Estate in the Netherlands for the time being. The Mégane Estate is available in the Netherlands with 140 hp and 160 hp petrol engines, but is also available as an E-Tech Plug-in Hybrid with 160 hp. In addition, Renault supplies the Mégane Estate with the well-known 115 hp Blue dCi diesels. The five-door hatchback disappeared from the Dutch delivery range in 2021. Elsewhere in the world, Renault also sells the Mégane as a sedan.
In addition to the Mégane with combustion engines, Renault of course offers the electric Megane E-Tech Electric (indeed, without the accent!). That electric crossover does not share a nut, screw or clamp with the older Mégane. The Megane E-Tech Electric is available with a 40 kWh and a 60 kWh battery. The version with 40 kWh battery is called EV40 and delivers 130 hp. The EV60 is not only available with a 130 hp electric motor, but also with a 220 hp power source. The starting price of the Megane E-Tech Electric is €37,590.
