Repairing an iPhone will soon be easier (and much cheaper)

Apple has announced that it will become much easier to repair your iPhone. That’s not all, because it will soon also be much cheaper. This is why.

Does the screen of your iPhone need to be replaced? Or does the battery run out way too quickly? Then there is good news, because Apple will soon make it easier to repair your iPhone. The company has indicated that third-party components will be better supported. This means that new parts work better with the functions of your iPhone, even if you did not have them replaced by Apple itself.

This has several advantages. It becomes much easier to have your iPhone repaired, because you can also go to third parties. Moreover, you will probably spend less money, because these providers usually charge a lower price for new parts. For example, Apple charges 109 euros for a new battery for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while for a new screen on the same phone the repair costs themselves are 489 euros. This price is much lower with third parties.

Parts work with iPhone features

Apple has announced that True Tone will also work later this year if your screen has been replaced by another provider. With True Tone, the screen automatically adjusts the white balance of the screen to your environment. Sensors are used in the edges of it for this purpose. This function does not currently work if you have your iPhone repaired by a third party, but later this year you will be able to enable True Tone.

Would you rather have the iPhone battery replaced at a cheaper party? Apple also offers more support for this. Now you do not see maximum capacity, battery condition and charging cycles for batteries from other providers. This will change later this year, because Apple will also show this data for these batteries. The company does indicate that it cannot verify whether these figures are correct or whether they have been manipulated by third parties.

Changes coming in iOS 18

Apple is trying to make it easier to get your iPhone repaired. You can of course still contact the company itself to be sure of good quality. You pay a higher price for this, but you do not have to doubt the quality of the new parts. Therefore, be careful when you go to another provider for a repair, so that you do not receive poor service.

You will probably be able to enable True Tone on repaired screens from iOS 18 and see the battery information for new batteries. Have you had all parts replaced at Apple? Then you have always been able to view these functions, even after the repair.
