Samsung released the Galaxy S25 on Wednesday, January 22, so it’s time for a comparison with the iPhone 16.
Samsung Galaxy S25 vs iPhone 16
Samsung has not only released the Galaxy S25, but also the Galaxy S25 Plus and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. In this article we only compare the Samsung Galaxy S25 with the iPhone 16.
Housing and screen
The differences we encounter here are not enormous. Samsung has managed to make the device slightly smaller than the iPhone 16 and the screen slightly larger than that of the iPhone 16. The Galaxy S25 measures 146.9 x 70.5 x 7.2 mm and weighs 162 grams. and has a 6.2 inch screen. For the iPhone 16, this is 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.8 mm, 70 g and 6.1 inches. With 1179 x 2556 pixels, the iPhone 16 has a higher resolution than the S25 (1080 x 2340 pixels).
The differences are so small that you won’t notice much in practice. You may prefer the thinner screen edges of the Samsung. And unlike the iPhone 16, the Galaxy S25 has an always-on screen.

Processor and memory
The Samsung runs on a lightning-fast Qualcomm SM8750-AB Snapdragon 8. That is an octa-core processor: 2x 4.47 GHz Oryon V2 Phoenix L + 6x 3.53 GHz Oryon V2 Phoenix M. The iPhone 16 has an equally fast A18 chip. This is a hexacore processor: 2x 4.04 GHz + 4x 2.20 GHz. On paper, the Samsung is a lot faster than the iPhone. A big difference is that Apple makes both the hardware and the software, so they are perfectly matched. The processor therefore works more efficiently than that of the S25.
The same applies to working memory. The Samsung Galaxy S25 is equipped with 12 GB of RAM, the iPhone 16 achieves fairly similar results with only 8 GB of RAM. You may notice some difference when playing heavy games. In home and garden use you probably won’t notice any difference at all.

Cameras on the back
Here the Samsung Galaxy S25 clearly scores better than the iPhone 16. In addition to a wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lens, the Samsung also has a 10 MP zoom lens with a 3x optical zoom. For this you have to choose a Pro model from Apple. In addition, you can record videos in 8K with the S25 and a maximum of 4K with the iPhone.
The wide-angle lens of the Samsung has 50 MP, that of the iPhone 48 MP. That is a difference that you will not notice much in practice. The 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens is completely comparable on both devices.

Selfie camera
Both devices have a selfie camera with 12 MP. However, the iPhone 16 has a larger aperture (f/1.9) than that of the S25 (f/2.2), allowing more light in. Here too, the difference is not so great that you will notice it very much in practice.
Also a small difference in battery
If we look at the battery, the S25 beats the iPhone 16 on paper. The Samsung has a battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh, the iPhone has to make do with 3561 mAh. In practice, Apple always manages to get more out of the battery than other brands. In this case, the battery life of both devices is comparable.
Both devices charge quickly at 25 watts. In practice, this means 50 percent charging in half an hour. Both devices charge wirelessly (Qi2) at 15 watts. The iPhone 16 can also charge via MagSafe, which uses 25 watts.

Galaxy AI
Galaxy AI is not new, but it has been further improved with the Galaxy S25. The same goes for the Circle to Search feature, which allows you to instantly search for something you circle on the screen. This function now also works better with telephone numbers, e-mail addresses and links.
Unfortunately, Apple Intelligence is still not available here and so we cannot compare it with Galaxy AI. At least in the Netherlands, Samsung currently has an advantage on this point.
Conclusion: Samsung Galaxy S25 vs iPhone 16
The Galaxy S25 and the iPhone 16 are quite comparable in many respects. On paper, the Samsung is often a little ahead, but in practice that lead virtually disappears. The exception to this is of course the 10 MP zoom lens with 3x optical zoom, which is completely missing on the iPhone, as is an always-on screen. In addition, you can already use artificial intelligence on the S25, which is not yet possible on the iPhone in the Netherlands. Finally, even the price is comparable: the iPhone 16 you can buy the Samsung Galaxy S25 for 899 euros.
