Solution for the city

Seat is working on a Fiat Topolino-like one

Seat is working behind the scenes to develop a compact piece of electric urban transport in the style of cars such as the Opel Rocks Electric, Citroën Ami and Fiat Topolino.

Within the Volkswagen Group, Seat will soon play much less of the role of a traditional car manufacturer than it currently does. As far as cars are concerned, attention is increasingly shifting to Cupra and Seat seems to be transforming itself into a mobility provider. Seat may probably become less and less of a traditional car manufacturer, but that does not mean that the brand will disappear. It was previously announced that Seat would be involved in, among other things, ‘sustainable mobility concepts’ and electric shared vehicles. The brand is working, among other things, on the development of a compact electric ‘car’ for urban areas, according to Seat and Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths.

Griffiths emphasizes again in an interview with Car-Editors.net that both Seat and Cupra are important and that Seat is still focusing on cars with combustion engines for the time being. In addition, the CEO says that Seat is working behind the scenes on a compact EV in the vehicle class L6e or L7e. Think of small city rascals such as the Citroën Ami, Opel Rocks Electric and Fiat Topolino. “City cars should be as small as possible. The city belongs to the people who live there. We have to respond to that. Not by making individual mobility impossible, but by coming up with solutions,” Griffiths adds. In 2019, Seat already showed the Minimó, a small electric city car that somewhat resembles the Renault Twizy. However, that never went into production.
