Secret features for iOS 15: these 6 iPhone tricks you (probably) don’t know yet

iOS 15 contains many secret functions for your iPhone. Some features are super useful and you should really know. Don’t worry, because iPhoned collected them for you. These are six hidden features (plus an extra mini tip!) that you probably haven’t heard of.

6 Secret Features for iOS 15 You Don’t Know Yet

Even if you’ve explored all of iOS’s options on your iPhone, there are still areas that you’re overlooking. Some features are simply useful, but other options also save you time. We have put together a nice mix for you. Which tip did you not know yet?

1. Customize home screen: reorder or delete

In iOS 14 you could customize all the different home screens by turning them off. In iOS 15, several functions have been added. For example, it is now possible to delete a page (complete with apps) or to change the order.

Home screens iPhone

Press and hold your finger on an empty spot on the screen until the apps start to wiggle. Then tap the bar at the bottom of the screen that shows how many home screens you have (these are the dots).

You can now rearrange the order of the home screens by moving them around. By unchecking one of the home screens and tapping the minus sign, you remove the entire page of apps. The apps will still remain on your iPhone and are available in the App Library.

2. Using Live Text from Safari

iOS 15 includes a new Live Text feature that allows you to copy text from magazines, photos, or information boards to your iPhone. This function is now also included in Safari. This allows you to quickly copy a URL or piece of text from a billboard or business card. The address bar in Safari must be at the bottom for this.

Safari with live text in iOS 15

Open Safari and remove the existing text from the address bar. Then tap the empty address bar with your finger. Tap ‘Scan Text’ in the speech bubble and the camera app will open in the lower part of your screen. Point the camera at the text, then tap Insert. The text will then appear in Safari.

3. ‘Drag and drop’ with text and images

In iOS 15, you can now drag and drop text and photos. For example, it is possible to drag multiple photos from the Photos app to Telegram or text messages (including photos) from Messages to Notes.

Open the Messages app and hold your finger on the message you want to move. Drag your finger along with the message. Then use another finger to select the other messages one by one.

Now it gets a bit tricky, because while you’re holding the messages, you have to open the app with your other finger in which you want to paste the data. Open the Notes app and drag the text to a new note.

4. Adjust alarm clock easier

Not super innovative, but one of iOS 15’s secret features that’s good to know. If you regularly use the alarm clock on your iPhone, you may have found that adjusting can sometimes be quite cumbersome.

You must then first tap ‘Change’ in the overview and on the set alarm. Then you can make adjustments. In iOS 15, you can now tap the set alarm right away to customize and no longer need to tap edit first.

5. Share arrival in Maps

If you’re on your way to a friend or family member, it’s a good idea to let us know when you’ll be there. You can also do that in Apple Maps. It is even possible to always notify someone when you go to a certain location. It will come in handy if, for example, you go to lunch with your parents every week. You no longer have to manually enter your arrival time each time.

Share arrival cards

You must have the location you want to share in your favorites. To add a location to your favorites, tap the plus sign above ‘Add’. Once you have the desired location in the favorites? Then tap ‘More’ and the information ball next to the location. Choose ‘Add person’ and select the person you want to add. Then tap ‘Done’.

Does the recipient have an iPhone? Then he or she will receive the notification in iMessage. Otherwise, they will be notified via SMS. We have to admit: the messages did not always get through via SMS.

6. Open New Tab in Safari in Background

Do you open a lot of tabs in Safari? And don’t you find it annoying that a new tab opens automatically? There is something to do. This feature is not only for iOS 15, but very useful. This setting opens new pages in the background and allows you to continue browsing the current page while the other sites load in the background.

Open Tab in Safari

Open ‘Settings’ and scroll down. Go to ‘Safari’ and scroll down again. Tap ‘Open links’ and choose ‘In background’. When you now hold a link in Safari, you can choose the option ‘Open in background’.

Surprise, we’ve got one more mini tip: Now when you tap a link in Safari with two fingers at the same time, the tab will also open in the background.
