You can change the controller layout on an Xbox One or Series X | S console. This way you can give certain buttons a different function. And if you have an Elite controller, you have many more options at your disposal. You can also do this with the Xbox controller you have connected to your Windows 10 PC.
On the Xbox you need a special app called Accessories. This is an app with a simple interface that allows you to quickly adjust the layout of your controller. Fortunately, this app is also available for Windows 10. So if you are already familiar with the Xbox version, you can get started right away. If it still doesn’t mean much to you, we will explain how to adjust the format below, so that you can concentrate on your video games again afterwards. In any case, it’s good to know that the app works with the standard Xbox One controller, Xbox Series X | S controller, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller (and its successor), and even the Xbox Adaptive Controller (a controller intended is for people with disabilities).
Download Xbox Accessories
So you start by downloading the Xbox Accessories app. On the store page, click on Download and the store application will open on your Windows 10 computer. You may have to give your permission for this, so keep an eye out for any pop-up. After installation, the app is of course available via the Start menu. If you can’t find it right away, open the start menu and start typing Xbox. Then you will see him automatically.
Once you’ve done this, connect your Xbox controller to your computer. This can be done via a USB dongle (which is available separately), Bluetooth (if you have a modern controller) or simply a USB cable. You open the app and press the button to configure. On the left you will now find an option for creating a new profile. You can give that profile a name so that you can quickly switch to it later. For example, give it a game name if you often play the same game, or use the indication of a genre if you want to use this format for RPGs or racing games.
Save your choice so we can start arranging the buttons. You can now set which function a button should have via drop-down menus. It comes down to turning buttons, as it were. If you also play a lot on a Nintendo or PlayStation in the meantime, then you would do well to turn the A and B buttons, for example. If you have an Elite controller, you can give the buttons on the back functions that are normally on the shoulder buttons or under the analog batons. It is just what you like.
This is also the menu with which you also digitally turn the analog billets and adjust the Y-axis of those levers. You can even reverse the triggers if you wish. In addition, you can scale out the vibrating motor, so that your controller no longer vibrates. Now it is a matter of assigning another slot to the institution; this allows you to quickly switch between layouts. Save everything and you can start playing immediately, but in the way that you like.
