The new iMac with M1 chip is incredibly thin: how did Apple manage to do that. That question is answered in a teardown of the new Apple computer.
iMac M1 teardown exposes powerful computer
Most people still have to wait for their order, but iFixit has already received his new iMac. This website is known for its so-called teardowns: what does a device look like when you unscrew it?
The new iMac with M1 chip has also been subjected to a teardown. The main conclusion? Very few computer components are included in the new Apple desktop.
In fact, the iMac consists of one fairly compact motherboard with some parts on it. The new Apple computer has a M1 chip, which is homemade by Apple, which means that the processor, video card and, for example, the working memory are soldered to the motherboard.
This ensures that the new iMac is wafer-thin and also very light. A disadvantage of this design choice is that it is very difficult to repair the M1 iMac. If you run into problems with your computer, you should almost certainly go to a handy repairer.
Do you want to disassemble the iMac yourself? Then it is important to know that the screen is attached to the housing. You need tools to separate these two.
Furthermore, the new Apple desktop has two metal plates in the housing. IFixit does not know for sure, but they probably take care of the heat dissipation.
