Tesla can probably start German production this year

Tesla’s are still not rolling out of the factory near Berlin, even though it seemed more likely that it would happen this fall. However, the local Minister of Economic Affairs expects to be able to give the green light soon.

More than a month ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had Automotive News know that he expected to get the green light ‘within weeks’ to start Tesla production in Grünheide, Germany. That green light is still not there. However, the local Minister of Economic Affairs, Jörg Steinbach, has good news. In conversation with Automobilwoche The German states that he is counting on the final approval to be a fact before the end of the year, although he says he cannot guarantee this.

The local government cannot grant approval until it has dealt with all objections to the production. Despite new criticism, Steinbach speaks of a ‘relaxed atmosphere’ around Tesla’s Gigafactory. It will be exciting whether Musk’s target of ‘produce by December’ will be achieved, but the chance is real. Musk said earlier that he expects an eventual production of 10,000 cars per week in Grünheide. Tesla is going to build the Model Y for Europe. The Tesla’s Model Y that are already being delivered in our continent are built in China.
