Growth is leveling off

The Tesla Model Y was by far the most popular new car in the Netherlands in June. This is evident from the monthly registration figures of new passenger cars from the RAI Association, Bovag and RDC. Once again we had a month in which more new cars were registered than in the same month last year.
Last month, 37,340 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands. That was no less than 24.4 percent more than in June 2022. Then 30,016 new passenger cars were registered. Will the growth figures of the Dutch car market never come to an end this year? Certainly. Growth appears to be leveling off. In May almost 42 percent more new cars were registered than in the same month a year earlier. This seems to mean that the open orders caused by delivery and stock problems are being cleared at a rapid pace.
Most popular cars in the Netherlands, June 2023
No less than 1,702 new copies of the Tesla Model Y were registered in June. This made the electric crossover good for a market share of 4.6 percent and for the title of ‘most registered new car of June 2023’. In second place we find the ever-popular smallest Kia: the Picanto. With 1,112 registrations, the Kia Picanto accounted for a market share of 3 percent. The rest of the Top 5 looks familiar. Also this month the Peugeot 208 is back in it. This time not in second place, but in third position with 1,051 registrations (market share 2.8 percent). The Volvo XC40 and Opel Corsa were still in fourth and fifth place in May. Although these models are regularly in the Top 5, they skip a turn this month. This time we find the Volkswagen Polo in fourth place (1,007 units, market share 2.7 percent). The Tesla Model 3 is in fifth place. With 840 registrations, the Model 3 is not half as good as the Model Y, but still accounts for a market share of 2.3 percent.
