We already knew that the Tesla Roadster will take a while, but today big boss Elon Musk has a fairly concrete moment on the introduction of the spectacular model. The Tesla Roadster will arrive in 2022, he says.
Musk previously called the Tesla Roadster, which was already shown in 2017, ‘the dessert’. He meant that the car comes as the spectacular hit after a series of introductions of important volume models. Yesterday we saw an example of this in the form of the heavily renewed versions of the Model S and Model X.
Those cars pave the way for the Roadster, says Musk – how could it be otherwise – in a twitter message. As a Plaid, the Model S and Model X will soon be equipped with a three-engine powertrain that should also appear in the Roadster. With the help of the knowledge and experience gained with the Plaid models, the development of the Roadster should come to a successful conclusion this year. Musk promises a production-ready Roadster will be presented by the end of the summer, with production starting in 2022.
The new Tesla Roadster is a Targa-style open two-seater that should shoot from 0 to 100 in less than 2 seconds. This would make the car even faster than the new Model S Plaid +, for which Tesla is currently promising a 0-100 time of ‘less than 2.1 seconds’. The Roadster also gets a top speed of over 400 km / h. That is quite bizarre in a general sense, but certainly for an electric car.
