Tesla will wrap its own cars in China

Many Teslas worldwide are given a different color by means of a wrap. Tesla is happy to take a piece of that, and will at least offer wrapping in China itself.

Tesla announced this via its official account on Weibo, the Chinese counterpart of Twitter. Now we don’t hang around there every day, but the well-known Elektrec.co was kind enough to pick the news and accompanying photos from the giant social media platform. Tesla could earn a nice extra pocket money by wrapping itself. Moreover, it would also be beneficial for consumers to have a car lifted in a different color at Tesla itself, because the wrapping of only Teslas by official Tesla employees may be good news for both the quality and the pace and therefore the price tag.

The wraps can be ordered in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Suzhou and a number of other cities. The process simply runs through Tesla’s own service center. Whether Tesla developed the sticker material itself is not known, but a partnership with an experienced wrap producer seems more plausible.

But why?

There are a number of reasons that so many Teslas are completely covered by an often brightly colored sticker. For starters, the paintwork of the cars is, according to many Tesla drivers, of mediocre quality, making the protective layer very welcome. In addition, to reduce costs, Tesla only offers five paint colors, with a hefty amount for the four non-standard variations. Finally, there are places, such as the Netherlands, the western US and apparently also regions in China, where Teslas are now a very common sight. Then a certain need for some distinction arises automatically. This is easy to achieve with a wrap.
