iPhone 12 gets new feature in iOS 17.4
You may have already noticed, but iPhone 12 owners suddenly had a little extra available in iOS 17.4. Several reports say that the iPhone 12 can now charge wirelessly at the full speed of 15W.
Apple introduced the function to charge your phone wirelessly with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Support for fast wireless charging (with a Qi2 charger) was first announced for the iPhone 15. Then the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 also received faster wireless charging in iOS 17.2. Since iOS 17.4, the iPhone 12 has also received this support.
You could always use Qi2 chargers for wireless charging, because they also support Qi-enabled devices. But then you could charge at a maximum of 7.5W. After the iOS 17.4 update, it is also possible to charge your device at full wireless speed on the iPhone 12.
What is Qi2?
Qi2 is the wireless charging standard and builds on Apple’s MagSafe charging technology. It was introduced in early 2023 as the new standard for wireless charging. Not only iPhones can use these wireless chargers, Android devices can also be charged with them.
