The standard version of the iPhone 16 is so good that there is almost no reason to choose a Pro model.
The reason the iPhone 16 is way too good
Apple did something with the iPhone 16 series that surprised a lot of people. The base model became more powerful than ever, leaving fewer reasons to upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro. Recent reports about the next iPhone SE could explain why.
In recent years the announcements of the latest iPhones not very exciting. And that is mainly because they are very similar to the Pro models from a year earlier. Typically, the new base model gets the same chip as the Pro model from the year before, along with some other features. But this year was different.
Many new features
The base model of the iPhone 16 series received a brand new A18 chip, which is almost as good as the A18 Pro chip. And the camera controller, a function that in any other year would certainly have been exclusive to the Pro, is also included on the basic model.
Furthermore, the new iPhone is equipped with the new second generation of photographic styles, the action button and support for Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 16 is extremely attractive, and the question arises as to why Apple made it so good. The reason probably has to do with the iPhone SE 4.
iPhone SE4
There are already many rumors indicating that next spring’s iPhone SE 4 will bring major changes to the budget option of the iPhone. For example, the iPhone SE 4 will have an OLED screen with thinner edges and a notch, no longer a home button, an A18 chip with 8 RAM of RAM and support for Apple Intelligence, and a 48 MP main camera and a 5G modem.
So it seems that you get a lot for your money with the iPhone SE 4 more than ever. The price is not yet known, but we assume that it will be around 529 euros, just like the predecessor.
Difference is important
If Apple had not changed the usual pattern and withheld important innovations from the iPhone 16, the difference between the iPhone 16 and the iPhone SE 4 would be too small. Nobody chooses the iPhone 16 if you can buy an iPhone that is almost as good for a few hundred euros less.
But in this case, for that money you get a Dynamic Island, an ultra-wide-angle camera, an action button and a camera controller (later also with Visual Intelligence). All these items show a clear difference. If you hold an iPhone SE 4 and an iPhone 16 next to each other, you will immediately see all the differences. And that is important.
In this way, Apple has a strong model on offer for every price point with the iPhone 16 series and the SE 4. If you want a budget option, the iPhone SE 4 offers great value for money. If you want modern features, then you can go with the iPhone 16. And if you want a real top model, then there is always the iPhone 16 Pro.
