The iPhone 16 has only been available since September, but in the meantime Apple is working on the iPhone 17, which is produced in Bangalore, India.
iPhone 17 is manufactured in India
Apple is working with production partner Foxconn for the iPhone 17. Foxconn is already engaged in early development of the base model of the iPhone 17 at a factory in Bangalore, India. This information comes from Wayne Ma by The Information. This is the first time that Apple has manufactured an iPhone from scratch in India.
According to The Information’s report, this iPhone 17 model has already passed an early stage of development. At that stage, Apple will assess whether engineers in India can develop prototypes of the iPhone 17 that can match the quality of the American prototypes. Apple wants to start developing new iPhones as early as possible at locations that are closer to the place where the final assembly takes place. The company wants to save costs in this way.
Not a huge update
The report from The Information does not reveal any new features or changes for the iPhone 17 besides the production location in India. Apple analyst Jeff Pu recently announced all his expectations for the basic model of the iPhone 17:
- 6.1-inch display
- A19 chip
- 8 GB RAM
- An improved 24 MP front camera
- 2 cameras on the back: a 48 MP Fusion and 12 MP ultra-wide angle
- Aluminum housing
According to these specifications, the base model of the iPhone 17 is not a huge update compared to the iPhone 16.
Apple produces the rumored iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, according to The Information report, not in India, but still in China. According to Jeff Pu, the iPhone 17 Air will have a single 48 MP camera on the back and 8 GB of RAM. The iPhone 17 Pro models will have a 48 MP zoom camera and 12 GB of RAM. We expect the new iPhones in September 2025.
