The iPhone battery will soon last even longer (and here’s why)

The battery of the iPhone lasts quite a long time. But thanks to the new A17 chip, the battery of the iPhone will last even longer.

iPhone battery will soon last even longer thanks to A17 chip

Do you have an iPhone 14 Pro Max? Then you have undoubtedly noticed that you can use a battery charge for quite a long time. Often it is enough to charge your iPhone only once every two days.

The iPhone battery will soon last even longer (and here’s why)

The battery will last even longer with the iPhone 15. This is partly due to the new A17 chip. Apple uses a new manufacturing process (3nm) for these chips. According to the news site Bloomberg, these new chips require a lot less power than previous versions.

Not only the battery and the A17 chip in the iPhone 15 will benefit from this new manufacturing process. Other chips that Apple is still planning (for example, the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips) will also benefit from this.

The A16 chip did not meet all of Apple’s wishes

Last week it came to light that Apple could not fulfill all wishes for the A16 chip (which you will find in the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max). Apple first planned to make the graphics chip in the A16 much better.

This faster GPU would enable ‘ray tracing’ (realistic reflections, shadow and light effects). However, the chips got too hot and consumed too much power. That’s why Apple decided to use a modified GPU from the older A15 chip.

Graphics power iPhone 15 gets a big boost

So the A16 chip doesn’t really have a new GPU. This leaves the graphics power a bit behind what Apple originally envisioned. But that is secretly good news for the A17 chip in the iPhone 15 series. Because this means that not only the battery life, but also the graphic power of the A17 chip in the iPhone 15 will soon receive a significant boost.

Only the top models of the iPhone 15 get the best chip

At the launch of the iPhone 14 series, Apple only gave the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max the new A16 chip. The iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus still had to make do with the older A15 chip.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Plus

Several rumors indicate that Apple will repeat this trick again with the iPhone 15 launch. For example, only the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max will receive the new A17 chip. The rest of the iPhone 15 series then remains ‘stuck’ on the A16 chip.
