In iOS 26 your AirPods will get an upgrade. Apple gives the light in the charging case a new color. But what does it mean?
The light of your AirPods will soon get a new color
Apple has given the light of your AirPods a small upgrade in beta 5 of iOS 26. The AirPods charging case always used an orange light when the case was charging, and a green light when it is fully charged.

If you have the charging case open (and the AirPods are in it), then a green light means that the AirPods are fully charged. Do you get an orange light? Then there is less than one full charge.
In Bèta 5 of iOS 26 (and with the new firmware from the AirPods) a new color is added. The description states that the charging case now indicates more clearly what the charging status is. And that you will receive a notification when it is time to charge

Above you see an explanation with the different colors. It is not yet entirely clear what color is, but probably green means fully charged. Yellow indicates that the case is charging, and the Orange says it is time to charge. It could also be that the orange light is now visible when you have the case closed.

It is not yet known which AirPods get the new color of the light. We expect it to come to the AirPods Pro, AirPods Pro 2 and the AirPods 4 anyway.
Airpods too old? These are the best AirPods of the moment
Do you have older AirPods and do you actually want new ones? Then you are now faced with the choice between the AirPods Pro 2 and the AirPods 4 (with or without noise reduction). The Pro 2 is a bit more expensive, but they also sound a bit better than the AirPods 4.
Do you not want silicone caps and yet noise reduction? Then you have to be with noise reduction at the AirPods 4. Do you not have to reduce noise reduction at all? Then the AirPods 4 without noisecancing are the best for you.
