The Volvo 1800 ES as a retro dream

It’s time for retro dream 3, the Volvo 1800 ES as a retro model in the eyes of our illustrator Larson. The Volvo 1800 ES was the shooting-brake-esque hatchback of the P1800, and was not just an inspiration for our draftsman. Dream about this retro Volvo, which of course will not come and has sprung purely from our imagination.

One of the most legendary Volvos is the 1800 ES, which evolved from the sporty-lined P1800. The special rear with the low rear window was not only a source of inspiration for the Dutch designer of the Volvo 480, Rob Koch, Steve Mattin also applied it to the Volvo C30.

A step further than Volvo 480 and C30

One step further goes our own draftsman Larson, who, as befits an artist, operates under his stage name. He knows how to translate the current Volvo design into the 1800 ES, or vice versa, in a wonderfully successful way. The hips of the retro model are more voluptuous than the C30, and we find it at least as beautiful in this illustration as the beautiful Polestar 1, the coupé based on the Volvo S60 that the new brand was allowed to use as an ex study model for its first production model.

Electric powertrain from EX 90

Of course, the new 1800 ES will not be a plug-in hybrid, but will use the new top platform that Volvo applies to the EX 90, the XC90 successor and that Polestar uses for the 3. Two electric motors with a combined 519 hp and 910 Nm make the new 1800 ES buzz super fast. Maybe The Saint will return then; Roger Moore once drove a P1800, Val Kilmer drove a Volvo C70 in the modern film version and for the second remake we bet on our retro 1800 ES. Finding a suitable actor will not be difficult; who wouldn’t want to shine in this beautiful blue Shooting Brake?
