Apple has released a new version of iOS 17.4.1 without any major announcement. We’ll tell you how to install the secret iOS update!
Secret iOS update surfaced
A week ago, Apple released iOS 17.4.1, which fixed major software issues. Apple only releases these types of interim updates in the event of major errors in the software. These need to be resolved as quickly as possible, leaving no time to wait for the next major iOS update. Now it appears that Apple has released a secret iOS update after iOS 17.4.1.

This iOS version will not appear on your iPhone, but it will become visible when your phone is connected to a computer. Apple released iOS 17.4.1 under serial number 21E236, while the new update appeared under the code 21E237. It is therefore not the same update, but a new version of iOS 17.4.1 that Apple has secretly launched. We will tell you how to install the update on your iPhone.
This is how you install iOS 17.4.1
You can usually find new software updates in your iPhone’s settings under ‘General > Software update’. The strange thing about the secret iOS update is that it does not appear on your iPhone. So you need a Mac(Book) or other laptop to update your phone. Did you grab that? Then installing the updated version of iOS 17.4.1 goes as follows:
- Open ‘Finder’ on your Mac;
- Select your iPhone under ‘Locations’;
- Click on ‘Check for update’;
- Finally, choose ‘Download and update’.
This is a fairly large update of 8 GB, which will be installed directly on your iPhone. Apple has not announced what will be changed in the update. The description of iOS 17.4.1 only states that important bug fixes and security updates are being implemented. The same was mentioned with the official release of iOS 17.4.1 last week, so we don’t know what the difference between the updates is.
Presumably minor adjustments for the iPhone
The fact that Apple has not (yet) released the update for all iPhones means that it probably concerns very minor adjustments to the software. There is a good chance that Apple will release an interim update soon. In iOS 17.4.2, all software and security issues will be resolved. Don’t you want to wait for that?
