Apple is working on a new generation of AirPods, with major changes expected. These features are coming to the AirPods Pro 3!
AirPods Pro 3 are coming
Apple released an updated version of the AirPods Pro 2 this year, but unfortunately that did not mean that the earphones received new functions. Instead, the charging box was adjusted, which can now be charged via a USB-C port. For real changes we have to wait for the third generation of the AirPods Pro. These features may be coming to the AirPods Pro 3!
1. New design
It is expected that Apple will give the AirPods Pro 3 a completely new design. Previously, the usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman indicated that Apple is working on a new design for the earphones. It’s about time, because the earphones have remained virtually unchanged since the first generation of the AirPods Pro.
It is not yet clear what exactly the changes will be with the AirPods Pro 3, but it is quite possible that the stem of the earphones will become slightly shorter. That rumor is already about the AirPods 4, so there is a good chance that Apple will implement similar changes with the AirPods Pro. The charging case would also receive an update.
2. Improved audio quality
An important improvement with the AirPods Pro 3 is reportedly the sound quality. The earphones will probably get a better version of the active one noise cancelling and improved audio quality. With the third generation of AirPods Pro, annoying ambient noise is filtered out even better. This is related to the release of the Vision Pro, because Apple’s first spatial computer is probably often worn together with the AirPods Pro.
It is therefore expected that Apple will make even more adjustments to the AirPods Pro 3 that have to do with the Vision Pro. In any case, the AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C already support lossless audio. This means that much less quality is lost with digital sound files. This feature also comes to the third generation of AirPods Pro, resulting in extremely good sound.
3. H2 chip gets an update
The AirPods Pro 2 contains the H2 chip, which enables active noise cancellation, Siri and connecting to various Apple devices. The processor is therefore very important for the earphones and will be updated with the AirPods Pro 3. We will probably see the H3 chip there, with an improved version of noise reduction and more new functions.
4. Functions to test your hearing
Apple is working on various health functions for the AirPods, some of which we may see on the AirPods Pro 3. For example, a new function will soon allow you to test your hearing with the earphones. The AirPods then emit different sounds and tones, to which you have to respond. Based on this test, the earphones can determine whether you have hearing damage and need to see a doctor.
In addition, according to Gurman, Apple is working on a health function that will allow AirPods to serve as a full-fledged hearing aid. The AirPods Pro already support accessibility features, which filter conversations in a busy environment. This feature will be even better with the AirPods Pro 3, but that is not the only health function that we will see with the new earphones.
5. Measure body temperature with the AirPods Pro 3
Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the AirPods Pro 3 can also measure your body temperature. When measuring your body temperature, measurements from your ear are more reliable than from your wrist. Apple has already filed a patent for AirPods to have a biometric sensor to measure your temperature. We may see this again with the AirPods Pro 3.
This is when the AirPods appear
The AirPods Pro 3 will therefore have cool new functions and a new design. Unfortunately, we still have to wait a while for the earphones, because they are reportedly not expected to appear until 2025. The AirPods 4 will arrive next year, possibly together with the second generation of AirPods Max. The advanced AirPods Pro will not receive a successor until 2025, probably in September that year.
