The iPhone 16 is a great smartphone, but which features are exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro (Max)? These are the main differences!
These features are exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro (Max)
The iPhone 16 Pro (€ 1,199) and the iPhone 16 Pro Max (€ 1,439) have a number of advantages compared to the regular iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus.
But which functions are really exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) and are not on the regular iPhone 16? We have listed the most important ones for you!
Dimensions: a bit larger
The first thing you notice is that the iPhone 16 Pro is slightly larger than the regular iPhone 16. The iPhone 16 Pro is 6.3 inches and the regular iPhone 16 is 6.1 inches. The iPhone 16 Plus is 6.7 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max is 6.9 inches.
Chip: A18 Pro
The iPhone 16 Pro has received a slightly better chip. The regular iPhone 16 contains an A18 chip, but an A18 Pro chip can be found in both Pro models. The biggest difference is that the A18 has a 5-core GPU and the A18 Pro has a 6-core GPU. This makes the Pro faster in demanding games, for example.
By the way, all iPhone 16 models have a new thermal design. The placement of the chips is centralized and the architecture around them is optimized. This means heat is better dissipated and this ensures 30 percent higher gaming performance.
Camera: more 48 MP
The iPhone 16 Pro has a 48 MP main camera with an aperture of f/1.8. It is slightly better than that of the regular iPhone 16. In addition, the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) has an ultra-wide-angle camera of 48 MP, while the regular iPhone 16 has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle.
There is also a 12-megapixel telephoto lens with a 5x optical zoom in the iPhone 16 Pro (Max). The iPhone 16 (Plus) does not have this lens and can only optically zoom in twice. Both pro models also have a 3D LiDAR scanner for depth measurements.
Storage: More storage
The iPhone 16 Pro is available with different amounts of storage. Just like the iPhone 16 (Plus), you can buy it with 256 GB and 512 GB of storage. But the Pro and Pro Max also have a version with 1 TB storage.
Titanium housing
The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max both have a titanium casing. They are available in black, white, natural or desert titanium.
Battery
The iPhone 16 Pro has a 3355 mAh battery and the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 4685 mAh battery. According to Apple, this allows you to play up to 27 hours of video. The iPhone 16 Pro Max lasts 33 hours. The iPhone 16 comes up to 22 hours and the iPhone 16 Plus up to 27 hours.
Promotion and always on
The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max both have support for ProMotion and always on.
The iPhone has a higher refresh rate thanks to ProMotion. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max were the first iPhones with ProMotion. This allows the screen to refresh faster (up to 120 Hz). This is especially noticeable when swiping and scrolling, where the display looks smoother. ProMotion can also reduce the refresh rate (down to 1 Hz on the iPhone 14 Pro (Max)) to save battery power.
Thanks to ProMotion, the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max both also have an always-on screen. For example, you can still read the time while you are not using the iPhone.
Slow motion video
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have more options when creating videos. You can also make slow motion videos in 4k at 120 fps on both Pro iPhones (the regular iPhone 16 can only do this in full HD).
Furthermore, the Pro also has 100 and 120 fps 4K Dolby Vision video and 120 fps 1080p Dolby Vision video recording. And you can also make ProRes video recordings at 4K 120 fps (for this you must connect an external SSD).
