iOS 26
The WWDC 2025 is coming! That means that Apple will soon present the most important software updates of the year. In 2024, iOS 18 appeared, but in 2025 Apple made the leap to iOS 26 in one go. With the figure, Apple refers to 2026, the year in which the software version is mainly used. That is not the only change, iOS 26 promises to be a major update for the iPhone.
The operating system for the iPhone will have a completely new design this year. In the renewed design, Apple takes over many parts of Visionos. That means that iOS 26 contains many transparent frameworks and glass elements. In addition, all applications receive adapted (round) symbols and a number of Apple apps will be redesigned. That is not the case with all iPhones, because iOS 26 is not available on all devices.
Supported iPhones
According to recent rumors, this year no iPhones will fall off at the release of iOS 26. That means that all iPhones with iOS 18 will soon be able to update to iOS 26. Is your iPhone running on iOS 18? Then your device also has support for the next software version. If you have an iPhone X, iPhone 8 (Plus) or older, you unfortunately cannot update to iOS 26. These are all iPhones that can update to iOS 26 later this year. Note, because that does not mean that these iPhones automatically get all new functions. Release of iOS 26
We don’t have to wait a long time for iOS 26, because Apple already presents the software version Monday 9 June 2025. The WWDC starts that day, Apple kicks off the WWDC at 19.00 Dutch time with a presentation. Around that time the company unveils the most important software updates of the year, including iOS 26 and iPados 26. Then we know which functions come to the operating system and what the new design is.
The final release of iOS 26 will take longer, at the beginning of September the update can be installed on all supported iPhones. Apple only rolls out the new software version, after the iPhone 17 (AIR) and the iPhone 17 Pro (MAX) have been announced.
