These two Apple Intelligence features aren’t coming until iOS 18.2

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, there are two Apple Intelligence features that won’t be released for a few months. Here’s what you need to know.

These Apple Intelligence features are coming in iOS 18.2

In his Power On-newsletter, Gurman said that Apple plans to add two Apple Intelligence features to iOS at a later date. The features Image Playground for generating images and Genmoji for generating custom emoji. These features probably won’t appear in the first version of iOS 18, but in iOS 18.2. We expect that version of iOS in December.

Apple describes Image Playground as follows:

Produce fun, original images in seconds with the Image Playground experience right in your apps. Create an entirely new image based on a description, suggested concepts, and even a person from your Photos library. You can easily adjust the style and make changes to match a Messages thread, your Freeform board, or a slide in Keynote.

Loosely translated it says the following:

Create fun, original images in seconds with Image Playground in your apps. Create completely new images based on a description, suggested concepts, or even a person from your photo library. Easily customize the style and make changes to fit specific posts, your Freeform board, or a slide in Keynote.

Genmoji is described by Apple as follows:

Make a brand-new Genmoji right in the keyboard to match any conversation. Provide a description to see a preview, and adjust your description until it’s perfect. You can even pick someone from your Photos library and create a Genmoji that looks like them.

This is a free translation:

Create a brand new Genmoji to match any conversation right from the keyboard. Enter a description to preview it, then edit your description until it’s perfect. You can even choose someone from your photo library and create a Genmoji that looks like them.

Also on other Apple devices

All other Apple Intelligence features are expected to be available right away in iOS 18.1, which is expected to be released to the general public in October. These AI features include new writing tools for generating and summarizing text, notification summaries, suggested replies in the Messages app, the ability to record and convert phone calls to text, a new tool in the Photos app that lets you quickly remove objects from a photo, and more.

To get Apple Intelligence on your iPhone, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 18.1 or later. Apple Intelligence is also coming to iPad and Mac, but not all devices will be upgraded with Apple’s latest software. For that, the iPad or Mac must run on an M1 chip or later. The iPhone requires an A17 Pro chip. All models of the new iPhone 16 series support Apple Intelligence.
