Not much boring about it
It’s ‘Blue Monday’, or according to some, the most depressing day of the year. So it’s time for a little extra gray, although there is little boring about this!
You can say a lot about big classic Citroëns, but not that they are boring. In that respect, despite its not very sparkling color, this Citroën CX is the perfect antidote for this ‘Blue Monday’. Just look at it shining in all its stubbornness, this 86er. The CX is a striking appearance in itself and isn’t such a ‘series 2’ a wonderfully extravagant mix of 70s and 80s influences?
In any case, there is one clear 70s feature that does not belong on this CX and that is that it has dark blue plates. Of course, earlier CXs still had that, but this one rolled off the production line far too late. On such a facelifted CX it immediately looks a bit unusual, the license plate expert also immediately sees from the presence of only two instead of four numbers that these plates should simply be yellow. Apart from that, the CX (a relatively modest 20 RE) makes a nice original impression. If any restoration has taken place, it has been done inconspicuously.
The mileage of just over 1.5 tons gives the impression that this is a CX that has simply had a quiet existence and has therefore aged beautifully. The original cassette player is also still present and that often says something. We advise you to be careful when eating in the CX, because due to the special placement in the center tunnel, some crumbs can sometimes end up in addition to cassettes. The French did a lot of things slightly differently with the CX, so to speak. Consider, for example, the one-spoke steering wheel and the ‘satellites’ instead of conventional steering column switches.
From 2000 to 2017, one and the same owner occasionally sat behind this striking steering wheel and then the previous owner took over for almost 6.5 years. Now this original Dutch CX can go on to its next owner, who will probably get a very nice and exceptionally comfortable car for €7,650. Of course, we hope that the bill will not increase too quickly afterwards, which is always exciting with a car with unconventional technology on board. Anyway, it’s never boring with a CX and that’s what it’s all about, right?
