This exclusive Pro feature comes to all iPhone 17 models

A feature that has been reserved for the Pro versions since the iPhone 13 will come to all iPhone 17 models next year.

This feature is coming to all iPhone 17 models

ETNews from South Korea published one this week message stating that all four iPhone 17 models launching next year will be equipped with energy-efficient LTPO screens. This suggests that an exclusive Pro feature will also come to regular iPhones for the first time. The use of LTPO technology indicates ProMotion screens with a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

ProMotion has been available on the Pro models since the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max were released in 2021. The expansion of the function to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air is therefore remarkable. According to the report, Samsung and LG will supply the LTPO screens for all iPhone 17 models.

LTPO (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) is an energy-efficient technology for OLED screens that enables a variable refresh rate with lower power consumption. This ensures that ProMotion does not significantly affect battery life.

Displays with ProMotion

iPhone screens with ProMotion look smoother when it comes to scrolling and watching videos. ProMotion also ensures that the screen can switch back to a more energy-efficient refresh rate. iPhone 13 Pro models can switch back to 10 Hz, the iPhone 14 Pro to iPhone 16 Pro models even to 1 Hz. This allows for an always-on screen that displays information even when the iPhone is locked. It is unclear whether the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Air can switch back to 10 Hz or to 1 Hz.

Rumors have appeared before that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will likely support ProMotion. The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus still have a 60 Hz screen. The iPhone 17 series is likely to be released in September 2025.
