This is how you make 3D videos (and photos) for your VR glasses with your iPhone
With the iPhone 16 a special, new function came to the devices: Spatial Video. This allows you to make spatial videos (a kind of 3D videos) that you can see later on VR glasses. According to Apple you need an Apple Vision Pro for that, but nowadays you can also use a Meta Quest (VR glasses that are a lot cheaper) for this.
To make a spatial video you do need a recent iPhone. The iPhones below can make a spatial video (or photo).

iPhone 16 series (all models)
With the introduction of the iPhone 16 series and iOS 18, the opportunity to make a spatial video was also available. All models, including the iPhone 16 (€ 769) and iPhone 16 Plus (€ 899), can make these 3D videos. Note: the iPhone 16th cannot make spatial videos.

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
With iOS 18.1, a few older models also received support for making the 3D videos. Unfortunately, only the iPhone 15 Pro (€ 1,155.95) and the iPhone 15 Pro Max (€ 1,159) are that this function has been given.
Older models can sometimes make 3D videos with the help of apps software. But often they are a lot less of quality and sometimes they are not seen by the VR glasses as a 3D video.

Take spatial video or photo on iPhone: step-by-step
Do you have an iPhone that can make 3D videos? Then you follow the steps below to take your own video or photo:

- Open the camera app;
- Wipe the options and choose ‘spatial’;
- Turn your iPhone in the horizontal display;
- Choose if you want to take a video or photo, tap the small camera or video camera icon in the corner;
- Tap the shutter button.
You can always view the spatial photos and videos as normal photos and videos and share it on your other Apple devices.
View spatial videos on your VR glasses (Meta Quest)
Do you have a Meta Quest VR glasses? Then you can watch these videos and photos in VR. If you go to the Meta Horizon app on your iPhone and tap the app on the menu button. Then you will find the media files on your VR glasses under ‘Gallery’.

By tapping the arrow at the top right and opening the ‘Spatial’ tab you can indicate which of the videos on your iPhone should be sent to the VR glasses. Once the files are sent, you can view the 3D videos the easiest on your VR glasses via the ‘Gallery’ app (gallery in English).
