Infiniti blows with the strong coupé wind that has been causing some commotion in SUV land for some time. The QX50 is flattened and the result is now presented to the world in the form of this brand new QX550.
The QX55 is a Coupé SUV based on the QX50 that Infiniti uses to target cars such as the BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé. Although the QX55 is Infiniti’s first real coupé SUV, years ago the brand already had a reasonably sporty SUV on the menu: the FX. This brand new QX55 is in a way the spiritual successor of that SUV, which was eventually christened QX70 and lasted until 2017.

The QX55 gets, just like the QX50 with which it shares its base, a front with a truly immense grille. The Infiniti logo placed in the center of it is also not to be missed. Infiniti gives the QX55 a sportier front bumper than the QX50, but the really big optical differences start right after the A-pillar. From that point on, the roof descends more sharply than on the QX50. Directly from the rear, the QX55 also breaks with its more conventionally lined QX50 brother. The rear lights are different and in terms of shape are somewhat like the units on the back of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé. These lamps are each made up of 45 LED elements. It is striking that Infiniti does not choose to connect the light units by means of a light bar or chrome strip. While the license plate is in the tailgate on the QX50, it will be placed in the rear bumper on the QX55. It comes standard on 20-inch alloy wheels.
Infiniti is still keeping extensive technical specifications under its cap, but reports that the QX55 will be available with the QX50’s well-known 2-liter petrol engine with variable compression ratio. That four-cylinder is 272 hp and 380 Nm strong. Four-wheel drive is standard. Images of the interior have not yet been released by Infiniti. However, you can expect the workspace to be identical to that of the QX50.

The approximately 4.75 meter long QX55 will be available in the US and Canadian markets in the spring of 2021. You do not have to expect him in the Netherlands, as Infiniti has now withdrawn from the Western European market.
