Genesis has released the first photos of the thoroughly renewed G70. The updated competitor to cars like the BMW 3 Series not only gets a completely new muzzle, but also a completely new rear.
The current Genesis G70, presented in 2017, is no longer in line with its larger sister models in terms of design. The brand new G80 was given a completely new design language during its generation change, a corporate identity that top model G90 was introduced to during a facelift. Now the smallest model offered by Hyundai’s luxury division has also been thoroughly renewed in terms of design.
The G70 gets a completely new front, where the new two-piece headlights together with a shield-shaped grille and an almost Alfa Romeo Giulia Q-like front bumper define the image. The back has also been completely redesigned. The number plate moves down one floor and is now in the – also new – rear bumper. Like the headlights, the rear lights are split into two parts. The overall shape of the unit is still very similar to that of the original presented in 2017 (photos 6 and 7). The Genesis brand name can be read across the entire width of the new tailgate with integrated spoiler. Striking for a facelift: on the flank the G70 gets a completely new, second fold. Normally, a facelift is limited in appearance to adjustments to ‘removable’ parts such as bumpers, hood and headlights. However, the G70 has to do without the double direction indicators in the front screens, copies that big brother G80 does have.
Genesis is less harsh in the interior. The brand gives the G70 a larger, now 10.25 inch large display that belongs to the infotainment system and adjusts the software of the system. It is not yet known what will change on the motor level. There is also more news in the barrel for the G70. For example, the model line will be expanded with a Shooting Brake variant in the short term. Due to the absence of Genesis in our part of the world, the G70 is not coming to Europe. In time, however, Genesis also wants to sell models in Europe, but that could still take a few years.
