If the storage space on your iPhone becomes full, then that has no positive effect on the speed. We show how you can easily release space again.
This way you free storage space
To begin with, you can free up storage space by removing apps that you do not use. You can tackle that in different ways. You can see which apps take the most space and then choose which of those apps you no longer need. You do that in the following way:
- Open the app settings;
- Tap ‘general’;
- Tap ‘iPhone storage’.
You can now see at a glance which apps take up the most storage space. If there is an app that you hardly use, then it is a good idea to remove that app. You then relatively quickly release a lot of space.

Free storage space
You can also set that apps that you have not used for a long time are automatically ‘tidy’. In addition, the corresponding documents and data are not lost, but it does yield you storage space. You set this function as follows:
- Open the app settings;
- Tap ‘Apps’ downstairs and then on ‘App Store’;
- Scroll down and switch on ‘plenty of apps’.

Photos and videos
In addition, photos and videos quickly take up a lot of storage space. It is then a good idea to use iCloud photos. All photos you take are not stored on your iPhone, but in you iCloud. You can then just open them as you are used to, provided you are connected to the internet. That is also possible on other Apple devices if you have them. You can switch on:
- Open the app settings;
- Tap your name and then on ‘iCloud’;
- Tap ‘photos’ and switch ‘synchronize this iPhone’;
- Make sure there is a check mark behind ‘optimize iPhone storage’.
