Bad news if you are waiting for CarPlay Ultra, because another car brand has indicated for the time being with the update.
CarPlay Ultra
It has been a while since Apple CarPlay announced Ultra. In May 2025, Apple unveiled the new generation of CarPlay. The operating system is much more advanced and is better integrated into the car. With CarPlay Ultra you can not only control navigation or music, but also operate the radio and temperature control. That sounds a lot of promising, although car brands are less positive about CarPlay Ultra.
Several car manufacturers have already indicated that they will not switch to CarPlay Ultra. These are also car brands that Apple previously claimed that they would get CarPlay Ultra. One of those brands is Ford, but the CEO of that company has commented negatively this week about the new version of CarPlay. Jim Farley is not enthusiastic about the performance of CarPlay Ultra and confirms that CarPlay Ultra is not coming to Ford cars for the time being.

Ford will postpone CarPlay Ultra
Instead, Ford focuses on the company’s own software. Farley has expressed doubts in a podcast about the deep integration of CarPlay Ultra. For example, the new generation of the operating system can also start the car and check the speed. These functions are already available for users of Ford, so that the car brand still doubts whether CarPlay Ultra is of added value.
Farley also states that Ford doubts whether a brand like Apple should have access to these essential functions of a car. According to Farley, there have already been conversations with Tim Cook, but they have not yet led to an agreement. Ford is not yet busy switching to CarPlay Ultra, so that the update will not come to car brand for the time being.

Postponement is not (yet) a cancellation
Do you have a Ford car? In that case there is good and bad news. You can’t use CarPlay Ultra for the time being, but Ford is talking about the operating system with Apple. Farley has emphasized that Ford is positive about Apple and that will remain. It therefore seems that postponing does not mean cancellation and CarPlay Ultra will eventually come to Ford cars. Unfortunately that takes longer than hoped. The current version of CarPlay will remain available at Ford.
Farley’s statements also mean bad news for Apple, because the release of CarPlay Ultra is hardly getting off the ground. The new version of the operating system is available in a number of Aston Martin cars in the United States and Canada. Are you curious about which car brands CarPlay Ultra get?
