The newest iPhones have Face ID, but according to rumors, Touch ID comes back to the next iPhone. We already know this.
Touch ID
Apple released the iPhone 16th at the end of February, with which Apple definitively said goodbye to Touch Id at the iPhone. The company introduced Touch ID to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014. Then the new security way also came to the iPad and the Mac. In 2022 the last iPhone with Touch ID appeared, that was the third generation of the iPhone SE. All newer iPhones are equipped with Face ID.
Now it turns out that the farewell was not so final, because there are rumors that Touch ID returns to the iPhone. At the next iPhone, Face ID is replaced by Touch ID, the sensor of which is reportedly placed in the lock button of the device. We already see a similar button at the iPad Air and the iPad Mini. Yet Touch ID does not come to every iPhone, probably only the new iPhone Fold will get a fingerprint scanner.

iPhone Fold
The rumors that Apple is working on a folding phone have been going on for years. In the meantime the iPhone Fold seems to be really coming, the device may even appear next year. The usually reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo already indicated last month that the iPhone Fold does not get a Face ID. New rumors confirm that the foldable iPhone Touch ID gets in a similar way than with the current iPad Air and iPad Mini.
According to Kuo, the sensors of Face ID need too much space in the enclosure of the iPhone Fold. Apple wants to prevent the housing of the foldable iPhone from becoming too thick, so that the company opts for Touch ID again. That means that the fingerprint scanner will return to the iPhone next year. We probably do not see the Dynamic Island with the iPhone Fold, because the feature is superfluous without the sensors for face recognition.

Release of the iPhone Fold
So there is a good chance that Apple has only said goodbye to Touch Ip at the iPhone temporarily. The iPhone Fold is becoming increasingly clear, so the foldable device is said to get a 5.5-inch screen on the outside. Do you open the device? Then a 7.8-inch display appears. This makes the open iPhone Fold comparable to the iPad Mini, the small tablet has a screen of 8.3 inches.
According to rumors, the screen has no Dynamic Island due to the return of Touch ID. Instead, the display has a small notch for the front camera. We know exactly which functions come to the iPhone Fold next year, provided Apple will actually announce the phone. According to rumors, the foldable iPhone has already been postponed more often, making it possible that a release in 2026 turns out to be too early.
