With Instant Apps for Android, some apps can be tried out without installing them.
App preview
Most apps need to be downloaded and installed to use them. It’s not difficult, but it does take time. If you don’t like the app, you can remove it with a few actions.
That whole process of installing and uninstalling is no longer necessary with Instant Apps for Android. These apps were launched by Google (the maker of Android). The apps can be tried out without downloading and installing. If you don’t like the app in question, you don’t have to uninstall it.
Turn on Google Play Instant Apps
The Instant Apps feature is available on recent versions of Android, but not on all phones. Whether it works for you is therefore a matter of trial and error. To use Instant Apps, you must first activate the feature in the Settings:
- Tap on Institutions.
- Tap on google > Settings for Google apps.
- Tap on Google Play Instant.
- Tap the switch behind “Upgrade Web Links” to toggle the option on or off.
Testing apps with Instant Apps
If the function is enabled, you can use the Instant Apps.
- Tap the app Play Store.
- Tap an app that interests you.
- If this can be tested via Instant Apps, there is now also a button ‘Try now’ next to ‘Install’. Tap on Try now. Not all apps have this capability, but you can do it with the NOS appto test.
- The chosen app opens and you can try it out.
- Tap the back arrow to return to the Play Store.
If you like the app, install it in the normal way. How to do this is explained in the tip ‘Download the app from the Play Store’.
