Apple has released the biggest software updates of 2025, but the best feature for iPhone is also not coming to the EU this year.
iPhone Mirroring
Apple announced many new features for the iPhone in 2024, which users in the European Union are still waiting for. For example, Apple Intelligence is still not available, although iOS 26.1 finally changes that. That doesn’t apply to iPhone Mirroring, which is one of the best new features for the iPhone. With the new feature you can operate your iPhone via your Mac (Book), without having to pick up the iPhone.
The new feature ensures that the screen of your iPhone is displayed on the screen of the Mac (Book). You can then use the mouse or trackpad to open and use all applications and programs on your iPhone. This is especially useful if you want to transfer files from your iPhone to your Mac, for which you no longer even need AirDrop. Instead, open all files with iPhone Mirroring and then simply drag them to your Mac. Unfortunately, in the European Union we still have to do without iPhone Mirroring.
European legislation
Apple has indicated that iPhone Mirroring will not be available to European users for the time being. According to the company, this has to do with European legislation, which states that the iPhone’s function must also work with other computers. That means that not only should your Mac be able to mirror an iPhone, but all computers should have support for the useful feature. This is the result of the Digital Markets Act in the European Union.
With this legislation, the European Union is trying to limit the power of large companies such as Apple. Smaller companies must be given a fairer competitive position, so that certain functions cannot remain exclusive to the iPhone or to Apple. This also applies to iPhone Mirroring, which is why Apple has decided not to release the best feature for the iPhone in the European Union for the time being. That’s a shame, because this setting ensures perfect cooperation between your iPhone and the Mac.
iPhone synchronous playback
Do you often transfer files from your iPhone to the Mac? Or do you want to save holiday photos on a hard drive? Then iPhone Mirroring is a handy solution, because you don’t need any other programs or cables to connect the device to the Mac. The function is not yet available on the iPhone in the European Union, but Apple has already added the option to the Dock on the Mac. There you will find a new application in macOS Tahoe called ‘Synchronous iPhone Display’.
Do you click on the new shortcut? You will then receive a message that the function is not yet available in your region. It is still unknown when Apple will roll out iPhone Mirroring or iPhone synchronous display here. That will probably take some time, because the company says it has not yet found a safe way to open the feature to other software systems.
