No updates for these iPhones
Apple has released iOS 26! It is about the largest software update of the year for the iPhone, where many new functions come to the device. That is not all, because the operating system is also provided with a completely new interface with Liquid Glass. Unfortunately, this does not apply to all devices, because Apple stopped updates for certain iPhones on Monday 15 September 2025.
The iPhone XR, iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max will not receive any big updates since Monday 15 September 2025. Instead, these iPhones get stuck on a later version of iOS 18. The iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are still running on the A12 Bionic chip, which is not powerful enough for all features of iOS 26. To install the update you have an A13 Bionic chip of better.
Security remains in order
Do you still have an iPhone XR, iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max? Then you cannot install iOS 26. These devices no longer receive major updates, but Apple does release new interim software versions for the iPhones. They are intended to keep the security of the devices in order, making it important to always install these software versions as quickly as possible.
Apple usually only releases interim software versions in major security problems, which in some cases are already publicly known. It is therefore advisable to always download the new software versions immediately, so that the iPhones remain safe to use without major updates. On Monday, September 15, Apple released such a software version for the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max for the first time.

For these iPhones, Apple released iOS 18.7 on Monday 15 September. With this new software version, Apple focuses on remedying software problems and improving security.
