In recent years, Apple has expanded the widget offer with, among other things, the contacts widget. Through this mini app you can keep contact with family and friends more easily from your home screen. You can reach them via telephone, messages, facetime or mail.
In addition, you can immediately see whether the contact has switched on a focus (do not disturb). When the location is shared with you, you can also immediately read it from the widget. You can do even more via ‘Share with Family’, such as a purchase or a screen time request from your children.
Install contacts-widget
- Navigate to the home screen of your iPhone or iPad
- Put your finger on the screen and wait a moment
- Wait for the apps to wobble
- Tap at the top of the plus or change button
- Choose ‘Add widget’
- Search or navigate for ‘contacts’
- Choose a desired display and place it on the home screen

Then tap the widget (when it wiggles) and choose a desired contact. Afterwards you can also adjust this by laying your finger the widget until a pop-up menu appears. Then choose ‘Change widget’ and adjust it.
In addition to the home screen, you can of course also place the contacts widget in the widget overview. Unlock your iPhone or iPad, swipe from right to left until all widgets are displayed. Place your finger on the screen until the mini apps go wiggle and add contacts.
Widget for contacts
The contacts widget for iPhone and iPad is more than just a quick representation of your most important contacts. This also shows extra information such as the location when it is shared via Search Mijn-app and whether the contact has not been disturb via Focus.

You can also tap the contact for extra options. You can immediately open contact via telephone, messages, facetime or mail. Furthermore, this shows the contact information, possibly photos, assignments, messages, shared links, mail, notes, files, social media, etc.
Have you added family members to the contacts widget? Then you can do even more via ‘Share with Family’, such as a purchase or a screen time request from your children.
