Volkswagen hints at GTE versions of Arteon and Tiguan

The Volkswagens Arteon and Tiguan will probably both get a GTE version in the long run. The two models are ripe for a plug-in hybrid powertrain according to the brand.

At the moment you have to knock on Volkswagen’s GTE for a Passat or a Golf. According to Volkswagen, those plug-ins have proved successful enough to plug in more models. The Arteon and the (facelift) Tiguan also come with a partly electric powertrain, the brand says. So they will probably also carry the GTE label. In that case, those plug-in hybrids are also dressed up with slightly different appearance than usual, as is already known from the Golf GTE and Passat GTE.

In terms of drivetrain, it is obvious that both the Tiguan and the Arteon get the combination that we find in the new Golf GTE. There the 150 hp 1.4 TSI serves, along with an 85 kW electric motor. The system power is 245 hp, which equals the plug-in of the new Golf GTI. Fully electric, the Golf GTE can drive about 60 kilometers (WLTP) thanks to the 13 kWh battery pack. In the Arteon and Tiguan, it may be less favorable due to the car weight and / or the body shape. No doubt we will hear more soon.
