The Volkswagen ID4 gets a coupé brother in the form of the ID5. A new set of spy photos shows the Volkswagen ID5 in action at Nürburgring-Nordschleife during test work.
As a car manufacturer you don’t need too much imagination these days to add a new body style to the range. Grab the clay model of one of your crossovers or SUVs, have someone sit on the back, and the foundation for a new coupe SUV is laid. Brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been using this trick for years and the Volkswagen Group is also coming up with SUVs with a steeper roofline. Skoda comes with the Enyaq Coupé iV and Volkswagen pushes the roofline of the ID4 down for the ID5 in these photos.
The Volkswagen ID5 logically shares its technology with the ID4 and so you can probably count on 55 kWh, 62 kWh and 77 kWh large battery packs and 0p electric motors with outputs of 180 hp, 204 hp, 265 hp and 306 hp. As with the ID4, the 306 hp powertrain is reserved for the ID5 GTX. You should actually see the GTX label as the GTI label for Volkswagen’s electric models. We expect that Volkswagen will pull the curtain on the ID5 early next year.
