Watch Netflix offline
Watching Netflix offline is a useful option if you often travel or your internet connection at home is not always the best. You can download movies and series in advance on your iPhone or iPad and then watch them whenever you want.
Anyone with a subscription to Netflix can download movies and series. But there is a small difference per subscription. It differs on how many devices you can download movies and series for offline viewing of Netflix.
For example, with a Basic subscription you can only download on one device. With the Standard subscription that is two devices and with the most expensive (Premium) subscription it is four devices at the same time. Keep this in mind if you plan to watch a lot of Netflix without an internet connection.
Watch Netflix offline: Download movies and series
- Tap the Netflix app and choose a profile (if necessary);
- Open a movie or episode of a series that you want to watch offline;
- Tap the ‘Download’ button;
- The video will now download in the background.
By the way, you should not start the offline videos from the normal overview. To watch a movie or series on Netflix offline, you must first go to the ‘Downloads’ tab. You can then start the video there.
Adjust image quality for Netflix downloads
If you want to watch a video offline at Netflix, the file must be saved. The size of the video you download depends on several factors. Of course, a long video will require more storage space than a shorter video. There is also a difference in the quality in which you download films and series.
You can set the quality of a video or series yourself. You do that in the following way:
- Launch the Netflix app and log in to your profile (if you have one);
- Tap on your profile picture at the top right;
- Choose ‘App settings’;
- Check whether the option ‘Only via WiFi’ is enabled;
- At ‘Image quality’, choose ‘Higher’.
At ‘Image quality’ you also have the option of ‘Standard’. This option downloads faster and uses less storage. But the video quality is also less.
Remove Netflix downloads
Are you done watching Netflix offline? Then you can also delete downloads. To do so, on the main page, tap “Downloads” at the bottom. You can also easily delete the files there.
Also useful to know: when you cancel your account, downloaded series and films will be removed from your device. You will need to download them again if you rejoin in the future.
