Accurate search for AirTags
Apple launched the long-awaited AirTag 2 on Monday, January 26. This new AirTag is equipped with the second generation Ultra Wideband chip for better localization than the first model. The timing of the watchOS 26.2.1 release is no coincidence, as the latest software update for Apple Watch offers a new feature that is perfect for the latest AirTag.
Accurate search for AirTags is now available for the first time on the Apple Watch. The feature is supported on the Apple Watch Series 9 or later, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later. Unfortunately, no Apple Watch SE models support Precise Search for AirTags.
No longer just on the iPhone
Precise search is one of the best features of the AirTag, but until now it was only available on the iPhone. With Precise Search for AirTags in watchOS 26.2.1, your Apple Watch uses haptic, visual, and audio feedback to guide you to your lost AirTag with precise directions.
If your Apple Watch model isn’t compatible with Precise Search for AirTags, you can still use the Watch to find your AirTag. But the Find Objects app in watchOS then only shows a map and offers only a few other functions, such as playing a sound on your AirTag. So you won’t get the accuracy that Precise Search for AirTags provides.
In addition to adding Precise Search for AirTags, watchOS 26.2.1 also includes major performance improvements. It is therefore recommended to install the update.
