Wearing the Apple Watch While Swimming: It Saves Lives (and Here’s Why)

The Apple Watch saved a life (yet again). This time the watch saved the life of a swimming woman. So don’t forget to always wear your Apple Watch when you go swimming!

Apple Watch takes care of your health

The Apple Watch is not only a handy tool during exercise, the smart watch can also save your life. There have been a lot of news stories about these life-saving qualities lately. For example, the Apple Watch saw a blocked artery before hospital equipment and the smartwatch detected a disease before the user (a nurse) knew it.

So it’s no secret that the Apple Watch has a positive impact on users’ health. But it can do more than just detect disease. A woman was swimming in the Columbia (a river in Oregon, United States) and got stuck.

Rescue workers just in time

The woman swam in water of 13 degrees Celsius and got stuck between the rocks. She activated the SOS function on her Apple Watch by pressing and holding the side button. You do not need an iPhone (nearby) for this, but an Apple Watch with a cellular connection. This allowed emergency services to find her in time.

The swimmer said she had been trapped in the river for more than 30 minutes and had activated the emergency call from her Apple Watch. After several failed rescue attempts, an officer finally managed to free the woman. So you see, you should always wear your Apple Watch when you go swimming!

You can do more than swim with your Apple Watch

So your Apple Watch doesn’t just save your life when swimming. The smartwatch is also made to have fun in the water. You can swim laps with your Apple Watch. That is, if you have an Apple Watch Series 2 or newer. The smartwatches for that are only water resistant, but not waterproof. Still, we recommend that you buy at least an Apple Watch Series 4 today.

In addition, the Apple Watch is also an ideal companion during more serious sports work. This way you can start a workout to train swimming. Once it starts, the screen will lock. You want to prevent accidental contact with water drops. Handy huh? There are also rumors that the Apple Watch Series 8 will support deep-sea diving.
