Weather app on iPhone unclear? This is what all the symbols mean

Do you regularly use the Weather app on your iPhone, but you don’t know exactly what all the symbols mean? We will explain them to you!

Weather app iPhone

There is nothing as changeable as the weather, especially in a country like the Netherlands. With various apps it is possible to prepare for the weather conditions. One of these is of course Apple’s own Weather app, which is standard on your iPhone. In the application you can see the weather forecast for the next ten days. That’s useful, but you need to understand the symbols in the Weather app.

Using no fewer than eighteen symbols, Apple’s Weather app shows what the weather will be like in the next ten days. That’s not all, because you also see the hourly weather forecasts for the next 24 hours. Apple uses the same symbols everywhere, which show the weather forecasts. Curious about what the cloud with stripes, the short blue stripes and the long blue stripes under a cloud mean exactly? Then see what the symbols in the Weather app stand for:

This is what the percentages mean

So you have to pay close attention to what those icons look like in Apple’s Weather app. For example, there are three symbols for when it rains, each of which tells something different about the amount of precipitation you can expect. If rain is forecast, you will not only see one of these symbols, but also a percentage. That percentage indicates the chance of precipitation in a specific location.

The percentage therefore does not mean how much precipitation falls in a certain area. With a percentage of fifty percent, there is a fifty percent chance of, for example, rain or snow in an area. Precipitation is then not expected in half of the area. Apple has added a number of symbols to the Weather app for winter precipitation. Are you unsure what the different icons mean? Here they are:

More iPhone tips

Apple regularly expands the Weather app with new features, but the symbols and meaning behind them usually remain the same. Lines are displayed between the minimum and maximum temperatures. That line shows the minimum and maximum temperatures for the next ten days. The colored part of this line represents the minimum and maximum temperatures of one day, so you can see how the temperature compares to the other days.

Other useful features in the Weather app are visible when you swipe down on the weather forecasts. You will then see much more information, including wind strength, expected amount of precipitation and humidity. In addition, information such as air pressure and information about the moon is displayed there. So it is already a very complete app, to which more functions will undoubtedly be added in the future.
