WhatsApp adds a useful function to all chats: this is how it works

Meta is currently working on a nifty new feature for all WhatsApp chats – here’s what you can expect from it.

WhatsApp adds useful feature to chats

New features are regularly added to WhatsApp and in many cases they are first part of the so-called TestFlight Beta program. This means that the new functions are first tested among a limited number of users who have signed up for them.

WABetaInfo a new feature in a recent beta version of WhatsApp on TestFlight. This feature is called ‘Manage Storage’ and is added to chat information pages. In this section you can see how much space a specific chat takes up on your iPhone. Also here you can view a gallery view with details on how much storage space each image, video, document and every other file in that chat takes up.

Storage management

The new feature works in the same way as the existing storage management feature, which can be found under Settings > ‘Storage & data’ > ‘Manage storage’. Until now, that was the only way to manage storage in WhatsApp.

By adding the new per-chat feature, WhatsApp makes it easier to determine which files take up the most space. To find this out, you no longer have to search through all the files from every chat in one place. This is still possible, because in some situations it is also a useful function.

By the way, WhatsApp already has an option called ‘Media, links and documents’ in every chat, which opens a gallery of shared files. However, it does not show how much storage space each file takes up there.

It is not yet clear when this feature will be rolled out. We will of course keep an eye on it for you. Do you want to be sure you don’t miss anything? Then sign up for our newsletter and we will automatically keep you informed!
